You should take a look at this article
http://www.popularmechanics.com/home...s/4301779.html They tested 7 different routers from different brands and Bosch PR20EVSK came out on top, but Craftsman 28212 for best overall value |

Before purchasing any tool, I read a lot of product reviews. With regard to Crafstman, the people who responded to this thread are right. Many people seem satisfied with Crafstman. So, why not go in for one? You can easily visit their official website and check out the prices. I am sure your bf will love it.

Yup, I'd go with a Craftsman. Sears tools overall are hard to beat. I have some hand tools I've had for years and they are still just as good as new. If you take even reasonable care of your tools, the Craftsman will last for a good long while.

I totally agree. I have my Dad's old drill that I bought him when I was a youngster about 1972. It still works as well as it did when he got it for Christmas that year. I love Sears tools. It's one thing they do pretty well.

I have a Bosch Router and was so impressed with the quality, fit, finish, power and ease of use that I bought a new hand drill made by them too. It is also one of the finest tools I have ever used. I would not hesitate to purchase any of the Bosch tools based on the two I now own. Well, actually three, I forgot about the compound miter saw I bought several years ago.
I have been using tools since my first job while still in high school 35 years ago. I have worn out many Craftsman tools and some better ones. I don't think I will ever wear out these Bosch tools. But, I don't think I will ever buy another Craftsman tool. Their quality has steadily declined over the years while the German and Swiss branded tools have improved. Craftsman mechanic tools have a good guarantee, but the power tools are only for a year and they always seem to wear out a few weeks after that. If you only use the tool around the home once or twice a year then a lower quality tool may be good enough. But if you work with and depend on your tools every day then get the Bosch. |

I suggest the Porter Cable 890 series. A great router with variable speed and 1/4in and 1/2in. collets.
Craftsman made some good power tools back in the '70's, but their quality has deteriorated to what I call, "Throw Away" tools. Their hand tools are still good. |
